As curmudgeonly as I can be, sometimes about politics, I actually find myself energized and enthused about this upcoming presidential election. I can’t wait to see who steps forward with a bright, inclusive, love-based vision for the future.
Some candidates will take center stage with a longing for the past and a strong vision for more “us against them”. These people have no hope of becoming president of the U.S. (Hint: pay no attention to the noise.)
There are two qualities that will determine who the next president will be. #2 is a strong, well articulated vision for the future that is inclusive and healing. #1 is a well defined and road tested “character”. It’s not even so much about whether you agree with that person or not. It’s more about do you know what they stand for. Do they actually stand for something or are they just against something?
This presidential election will boil down to a race between a candidate that stands for something and a candidate that is against something. That’s my prediction.
In the end, the public gets the elected officials that they deserve. In the end, the elected officials are a deep reflection of the hearts and minds of the general population.
That’s what it says in the Declaration of Independence: “That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among (the people), deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.” At the end of the day, this dog and pony show called the Federal Government is there and in power because you and I said so.
We watched the movie “Selma” last night. What a timely statement for today! (btw ….. that movie is really well done.)
