The French have a special word for the effect that “a sense of place” has on a wine. The steepness of the slope, the rocks in the soil, nearby bodies of water and the overall climate have as much impact on the quality of the wine as the genetics of the plant.
Of course, I like to think about the use of the word “terroir” towards being human.
You are the sum total of the people you hang out with, the stories (news) that you listen to and the environment you immerse yourself into each and every day.
The conversations that you are absorbing, the possibilities you are listening to, and the world view into which you submerge, are your world. Your fruit is a product of this “sense of place”.
